A black-burgundy red in the glass. The perfume is rich, overflowing with bramble, peat, clove, anise, mocha, black pepper, eucalypt, damson plum, pencil lead and pretty violet, briar rose florals. Full-bodied, the palate stretches out, unfurling itself languidly. The elegant balance of toasty oak, tart, saline acidity and super-fine, long tannins impresses. It is a big wine – the plushness is in character for this label, and has inky depths. Layers of liquorice, spice, and savoury, umami notes stroll through the back of the palate. It finishes with a supple sweetness that has great length. 95pts
