One of New Zealand’s classic Syrahs, from a great vintage. The latest releases (2022) are tasted here > https://winefolio.co.nz/?p=10384. The colour of deep ruby-purple in the glass. A mixture of cherry, raspberry, damson plum, bitter chocolate, blackcurrant, peppercorn and violets in the perfume. I found that decanting helped with balance at this stage. The palate is firmly concentrated, with a profile of fine tannins matched to a latent acidity. Savoury notes of terracotta, nori and black olive sit well against the lush fruit flavours, with a hint of stony minerality underneath. A glossy texture swaddles the back of the palate, rounding out the finish. 93pts
