An update (and new vintage of course) of a wine I first reviewed back in September 2021 > https://winefolio.co.nz/?p=4359. From the family vineyard at Mt Maude, picked from two blocks on the Eastern and Western sides (hence the name, funny that). A burgundy-ruby colour in the glass. Intriguing, youthful aromas of rose petal, raspberry, cherry, sumac, sarsparilla, plum, cranberry and blood orange. An energetic entry to the palate – the fruit has a pop of flavour that is bold and lively. Tannin is raspy and supple, and oak is a toasty influence, helping to ground the brightness of the palate. Acidity sings along, adding length and line. The spiciness ebbs and flows, snaking between layers of flavour, and persisting into a dry, zesty finish. 93pts.
