A Pinot Noir from Central Otago. A vibrant burgundy colour in the glass. Pinot should be a ‘mid-weight, aromatic red’ and this does that job very well, with a varietally distinctive perfume. Cherry, bramble, cranberry and plum, with bags of cinnamon, star anise and black pepper. Smoky oak is to the fore – sitting on top of those ripe fruit notes, and forming the spine of the palate, alongside a zesty acidity. There are hints of orange rind, liquorice and some dried thyme in layers, adding complexity. Tannins are integrated, supple and drying. A well-structured and weighty example, which will find favour – especially at a RRP of $27NZD. 92pts
