A dense ruby-black in the glass, with a power-packed perfume that comes racing out of the bottle. Blackberry, redcurrant and cassis lead, with ripe plum, cloves, graphite, five spice and vanilla all emerging in a tumble of vivid flavours. Seems so youthful, despite being nine years in the bottle. There is some muscle and weight in the palate, where charry oak notes surround and support the plush fruit. Tannin is fine and integrated, just giving enough chew and rasp across the tongue to add spine and grip. Savoury elements of mocha, black olive and nori filter through as the wine goes on a journey, with each sip revealing more complexity. The finish is soft, dry and long. 94pts
