From the Awatere Valley in Marlborough. A bright ruby-garnet in the glass with no signs of age in the colour this far. An earthy, mineral perfume underlines some ripe, dark fruit and a lift of violet florals. Concentrated and energetic – those meaty damson, bramble and cherry notes carried on a swell of acidity. Tannin is fine-boned and supple, and there’s a sprinkling of toasty oak. Smartly presented, with both elegance, complexity but still some boisterous bounce through the palate. The finish has a splash of sweetness and great length. 95pts
