A blend of classic Alsace varietals – gewürztraminer, pinot gris, muscat and riesling, from one block in their North Canterbury vineyards – all picked in one day. A medium golden-green in the glass. Generously perfumed with white peach, lemon peel, red apple, marshmallow, fennel, cherry, wisteria and a pot pourri note of rose and clove. In contrast, the palate is as dry and taut as the nose is voluptuous and aromatic. A tight line of acidity and a vein of oyster shell minerality hold sway, whilst a green, herbal swathe of angelica and pea pod tighten up the tastebuds. There is a waxy texture and hints of honeycomb, marmalade and dried fruits lingering at the back of the palate – I suggest these will develop more in time too – before a pithy, citrus finish, with great balance – again, quite dry. Intriguing, worth investigating. 93pts
