A wine from the Chalk Hill winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia. A dark, inky purple/black colour. Opulent aromas of bramble, boysenberry, dark chocolate, cinnamon toast, plum and violets come barrelling out of the glass. Quite young and tight on the palate – leaner than the nose suggests. There is good concentration, and the boxes for smoky oak, springy acidity and chewy tannin all get a tick. A smooth texture adds richness and there is a touch of roasted coffee towards the finish. A good all-rounder – one for the summer evenings. 89pts
