A red blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc) from the Owhanake Peninsula on Waiheke island, and an excellent vintage. A deep, inky purple colour in the glass. Perfumed with blackcurrant, chocolate nib, black plum, leather, mint, red cherry and cigar box. A plushness to the palate, but there is a tartness that reminds me of mint, tomato leaf and nettle in here too. Tannin is mellow, fine and ripe. Oak has played a part here but isn’t on the main stage today. There is a dark and savoury layer to the palate, with roasted spice, black tea, olive and cassia. Very good. 93pts
