A wine from the well-known Cornerstone Vineyard, in Hawke’s Bay. A darkly, inky purple in the glass. Very ‘old world’ on the nose, it has all the varietal signature of blackcurrant, graphite, dark cacao nib, mint, plum and bramble that you’d want from this grape. Showing great balance into the palate. There is robust but supple tannin and a juicy tang to the acidity that allows the seductive fruit notes to really scale heights. Savoury umami elements of tobacco, black olive, sumac and black pepper creep into the middle as the Cabernet frames the palate. It has great poise for such a young wine – silky and yet well-structured. The finish has harmony and length. 95pts
