From the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District in Hawke’s Bay, with great vintage conditions. Perfumed with dark blackcurrant, damson, smoked mushroom, cedar, graphite and a floral note of rose petal and lavender. A lovely crunch of ripe fruit – the balance between fleshy dark berry fruit and tannin is exquisite. There is a coiled tightness in the palate that shows potential for ageing confidently into greater complexity. The saturation and concentration is carried well by a generous acidity. A gentle spice, with peppercorn, mint, resin and cinnamon swirls into the finish – which is lengthy and dense. 95pts
