From the ‘Growers Collection’ of wines that were made from notable vineyards across New Zealand, that supported the core wines from their own vineyards in Waikari. An opaque dark purple-burgundy red in the glass. Bountiful aromas greet you, fragrantly earthen but with lifted, floral elements of lavender and lilac. Good concentration and plenty of savoury notes to balance the morello cherry, satsuma and plum fruit – black olive, smoky tea, game and musky incense. Tannin is dense and chewy, but the acidity still has lots of bounce. It has unfolded nicely to this point and probably at its peak drinking now. A plush but detailed, lengthy finish. 94pts
