From New Zealand’s northernmost vineyard – on the Karikari Peninsula. Sealed under cork, with a garnet-ruby colour in the glass. Plum, root beer, boysenberry, balsam, tamarillo, peppercorn, mocha and rose petal on the nose. Good weight into the palate, with plenty of savoury, umami notes of black olive and nori to balance the juicy, dark fruit. Acidity is bright with a citrus tang, and tannins are chewy. Together with toasty background of oak, the core is firmly set and allows the ripe character of the vintage to shine. A creamy element to the texture adds more polish and the finish is glossy and shows good persistence. 90pts
