Domaine Galuval ‘La Vallee’ Cairanne Blanc 2019

Domaine Galuval ‘La Vallee’ Cairanne Blanc 2019

The Rhone Valley has a hugely diverse topography and soil types – including the classic pebbles, clay and marl terroir. Domaine Galuval covers 49 ha of old vines between Cairanne and Rasteau. ‘La Vallee’ is a white blend of Clairette (54%), Roussanne (28%) and Viognier (18%). An aromatic white, with mandarin, pear, lime, grapefruit, fennel, sage and elderflower florals. The palate is richer, with stonefruits and hazelnut developing – some oak influence also shows up. The acidity and minerality define the mid-palate, with a tense frisson of crushed shell and zesty citron. It is an intriguing blend – not hugely dissimilar to a fine Chardonnay, but with its own personality and verve. 93pts
