Valli ended up the 2022 harvest with two lots of botrytized Riesling fruit – one in the Waitaki and one in the Bannockburn. With the quantities being too small to ferment separately they mixed them together to create an ‘Otago’ late harvest wine. Pale gold in the glass, with a delicately aromatic perfume of marmalade, honey, lime peel, apricot and jasmine florals. 105g/l of residual sugar gives a depth of sweetness, in turn tempered by a zesty acidity, resulting in a balance that is warming, nimble and continues through the palate. Crystallised ginger, acacia and shortbread on the long finish. 93pts
