Devotus Pinot Noir 2021

Devotus 2021

A Martinborough Pinot Noir – the vineyard sits adjacent to Dry River on the Martinborough Terrace, and comes from their Dijon and Abel clones – in a low-yielding vintage. A deep ruby colour in the glass, with a perfume that is soft and restrained but has a lovely floral lift of musk rose and lilac. Graphite and stony earth notes jostle the boysenberry, sour cherry and bramble fruit flavours – the flavours reflected both on the nose and directly on the palate. More savoury elements of game, salami and tapenade, woody herbs and whole-bunch stalk spiciness emerge. Tannin is supple and the acidity is fresh and understated – a young well-crafted wine with some development ahead, but no rough edges here – just needs some more time to meld together. Fine potential ahead. 92pts
