A wine from the Marsden estate vineyards in Kerikeri, Bay of Islands. A dark, dense ruby-garnet in the glass. Invitingly perfumed with a typical Syrah-varietal character. Red plum, vanilla, bramble, musk rose, star anise, lavender and mocha on the nose. A smooth, well-balanced core fits in some toasty oak, supple but chewy tannins and a bling of acidity that brightens up what is a weighty and concentrated palate. Ripe notes of boysenberry and cherry mingle in more spice and an element of savoury umami as you get deeper in. A fine, persistent finish. 91pts
