Brown Brothers Cienna 2021

Brown Brothers Cienna 2021

A wine from their Mystic Park vineyard in the Murray Valley of north-west Victoria, Australia. A new varietal for me – a cross of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sumoll, a spanish variety; and recommended to be served chilled – which I did. At just 8% alc/vol this a lighter style of wine, and with being poured cold, I thought it easily took the place that a rosé, or even a Lambrusco style would have on the table. A light, vibrant ruby-magenta in the glass, with a light spritz on the tongue. Good aromatics, with cherry, redcurrant, cloves, mint and raspberry. Very juicy, that tingle on first sip also reflected in a sweet fruit jube concentration of red berry flavour. By no means a simple wine – the retail price at New World is just $12.99 – it has a nice peaty savoury note in the palate, lots of spice, and a campari-like bitter crunch to the finish. A very good option for a summer BBQ, or evening aperitif wine. 88pts
