A sparkling wine from France – from the area of Auxerre, which is a neighbour of Chablis in Burgundy; and made in a similar style to Crémant. A vibrant pale straw colour in the glass. No autolysis signature – leaning on fruit flavours of apricot, red apple and lemonade in what is a tight, lean nose. A gentle, mousse of bubbles. Some shortbread and toastiness as the dry palate broadens and shows more richness. A crisp acidity with a bite of astringency, and even a nibble of strawberry character coming through at the finish. A safe, simple, enjoyable, fruit-forward sparkler. 86pts
