From the Adelaide Hills in South Australia – a label I was delighted to discover during lockdown at the end of 2021. A deep burgundy colour in the glass, with just a slight copper hue to the edges. On the nose that colour repeats through as blood orange, melded with blueberry, star anise, almond, bramble, campari, black pepper and damson. An smoky peat and loam character on the palate – mineral and autumnal forest floor. The acid is crisp and vibrant, giving a lifted brightness through the mid palate. Add in some grippy, spicy tannin and crunchy fruit, with a pop of freshness – no sense of oak here to find – plus a spicy, salami note towards the finish. Plenty going on. The finish is persistent and fine. 94pts
