From the producer Takapoto whose vineyards are by Lake Karapiro in Waikato. A bright lemon-green in the glass. Lovely, crisp aromatics, led by nectarine, pink grapefruit, dried pineapple, mandarin, butterscotch and pear. A toasty barrel note strikes the opening into the palate, with a good dash of baking spice and vanilla also framing the fruit. A green note of crushed herb and olive sits nicely alongside those warmer flavours. Well-balanced – the oak doesn’t dominate, and the acidity gives good flow through to a crisp, dry finish with generous length. 93pts
