Valli’s winemaker, Jen Parr, just won NZ Winemaker of the Year at the Gourmet Traveller WINE NZ awards – this is one of several Pinot Noir that Valli produce from vineyards across Central Otago.
A bright garnet in the glass; with aromas of violets, juicy bramble and an earthy autumn leafiness. A palate that starts with savoury thyme herbal is balanced by succulent redcurrant jelly, boysenberry and a delicious minerality – a tang of something like black tea. A warm, spicy element – cardamom and anise – is layered with smokey cedar notes and wrapped up in creamy texture. Add in some ripe acidity and silky tannins, and you have a wonderfully complex wine that expands more in every hour it is open.
