From 3 selected Hawke’s Bay vineyards, and from a great vintage. Drunk this weekend, after 6 years in bottle.
A light golden colour, greening at the edges. A noticeably smoky edge on the nose of sweet fruits – peach and grapefruit to the fore. A medium weight to the palate, with a saline, mineral quality that balances the ultra-ripe sweetness with a savoury tang. The oak is still making it’s influence known, and amidst the roasted almond and honey oat biscuit, there’s still a fair lick of lithe acidity driving this forward. A vanilla custard layer moves in at the finish – so long, and so, so sweet. A delicious chardonnay – a real Hawke’s Bay classic.
