Using Gimblett Gravels Malbec, rounded out with 20% Merlot, this is the ‘big’ wine of Daniel Brennan’s portfolio. A deep ruby-purple in the glass, with a rich aromatic profile on the nose. Dark cherry, blackberry, redcurrant and plum with plenty of spice, black pepper and graphite notes. Plenty of everything going on into the palate – sturdy but with a tight core structure of supple tannins which whilst huge are a promise of things to come once this still-youthful wine evolves. There’s a pulse of fruit that is plump, chunky and succulent, if hiding a little for now under a cedary, toasted oak and that blanket of tannin, but the finish is glossy, deep and persistant. Promising much. 91pts
