From the Tin Shed vineyard located at 125 Gimblett Road in the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke’s Bay. 71% Clone 95 and 29% Clone 548 fruit was hand harvested and gently pressed into brand new 500-litre French oak puncheons where it spent 17 months on yeast lees building further texture and complexity before being bottled in September 2020 – with no fining. Closed under screwcap. Medium gold in colour. Relatively restrained on the nose with aromas of peach with subtle hints of river stone and flint. Medium palate weight, flavours of white peach and nectarine with some elegant oak sitting stealthily in the background. It walks the tightrope masterfully between being creamy and generous (full malo) whilst also having crisp, vibrant acidity to balance it out. The finish is extended. This is a classy wine drinking very well now, but with many years of enjoyable drinking ahead, and I look forward to seeing how it evolves in time. 94pts
