Duncan Savage ‘Follow the Line’ 2016

Savage Follow the Line

From 40-year-old Cinsault bush vines, with a touch of Syrah, from Darling, South Africa. Wonderfully perfumed, with cranberry, cherry, rose petal, redcurrant, white pepper, cassia and violet florals. The palate is delicate and light of touch – tense and poised, with a savoury edge that counters some vibrantly fruity flavours. Pure and juicy with raspberry, yellow plum, then cola and red liquorice as the wine expands, draws breath. That perfume seeps through the palate, with each sip soaked in that ethereal aroma. The tannins are just wonderful, chewy, ripe and silken. An earthy, saline-like mineral note comes in at the finish, adding a drier, spicier finale. Compelling stuff. 93pts
