Labelled as a ‘wine-based beverage with added flavours and colour’. The grapes were grown in the Murray Valley of north west Victoria. A small addition of a naturally-derived flavour was added to the base wine to deliver the ginger and lime profile.
Sealed under cork and capsule. A pale green-gold colour in the glass with a light efferevesence. The perfume is ripe and juicy, with freshly grated ginger, melon, lime, orange bitters and distinctly green grape flavours. It smells like a wine-based cocktail (like a Spritz) more than a glass of wine. Juicy and quite sweet on the palate – at 8% alcohol it is light and fruity. The spritz on the tongue is persistent – more noticeable on the tongue than you see in the glass. Takes a good chill very well – essential I’d say, and I added ice to the glass after the first tastes and that works well too. It’s not going to worry any fine wine connoisseurs, but it is very pleasant aperitif drink. I liked it.
