From Heathcote in Central Victoria, Australia – sourced from their oldest blocks and only made in really good years. Darkest garnet in the glass, with a rich and inviting nose filled with aromas of plum, boysenberry, crushed peppercorns, smoked meats, vanilla and cassis. Dry, but so sweet-fruited as to appear plush and fleshy. Fruit tannins are fine and svelte, but there’s an influence from both the toasty oak and some whole bunch that is textural, sinewy and adds interest and complexity. Graphite, mocha and tapenade also contribute some savoury notes. Pretty, dense and yet robust. Quite complex stuff, with a long finish. 93pts.
