From vineyards in the Omaka Valley in Marlborough; a dark ruby hue in the glass. Perfumed with classic juicy red cherry and plum, dried herbals of sage and rosemary, and a smoky, gamey note. Acidity and tannin are beautifully entwined here – brightness, flow, and silken elegance. Pure, concentrated palate with redcurrant, orange rind, bramble with anise, cloves and sumac spiciness. Another interplay is the ripe sweet fruit with a savoury, mineral element. A dark chocolate flavour, then salted butterscotch, and finally a mushroom, forest floor note. Oak is noticeable, with toasty wood lingering throughout, but overall it’s complex and with real harmony. 94pts.
