From the ‘Eastern Hills of Waiheke Island’, a deep, inky, garnet in the glass. Wide and spicy on the nose, with blueberry, red plum, rosehip, raspberry, eucalypt and toasty rich oak. Dry, broad and vibrant on the palate, with a youthful verve and abundant pepper and sweet dark fruit. Savoury notes of roasted roots, mocha, black olive and earthy toasted spices and pepper as the wine opens up. Fine, supple tannin. Generous – oak and medium acidity all integrate neatly into a sleek, complex whole. Towards the back there’s a lovely crème fraiche tang, and the finish is flowing, long and glossy. 94pts.
