Jackson Estate ‘Vintage Widow’ Pinot Noir 2012

Jackson Estate ‘Vintage Widow’ Pinot Noir 2012

The 2015 vintage of this wine was the Trophy Winner at IWSC in 2019 (effectively being judged as the Best Pinot Noir in the World!). Medium depth garnet ruby red in the glass. Smoky, floral and sweet fruited on the nose. Raspberry, mocha, cherry, red plum and dark roasted spices. Medium bodied and with a fresh acidity that is still tense and linear. The backbone of black-tea tannins are softening now, integrated with the gentle seasoning of oak.

The mid-palate is smooth now, the concentrated fruit flavours darkening and showing a bit more of the savoury, earthy, mushroom characters, still with that middle-eastern spice in the mix. Wet-stone and a little herbal, medicinal tang (Seville or blood orange?) towards the back. The finish is plush, elements coming together in harmony and ending long and dry. 94pts.
