An elegant, but taut nose showing restrained notes of white peach, mandarin, roast cashew, grapefruit pith and oatmeal, with wood smoke and elderflower. Medium bodied and still tight across the palate, with the citrus and stonefruit flavours enhanced with a sweet, toasty oak richness.
Dry, with a youthful acidity. Delicately spiced, it broadens out with some air and shows a plush texture – from the time on lees in the 2500 litre ‘Foudre’ oak barrel of the title. Still finding its feet, it felt a little spikey, disjointed and not yet in harmony (maybe give it time?). 89pts.
