A new release from Lorraine Leheny and Warren Gibson’s Bilancia label – I’m very keen to hear how this wine that we talked about in our epic interview in December is received.
Uvaggio (Italian) field blend, field wine
…where grape varieties are growing in the same vineyard
….a grape blend prior to fermentation
From la collina vineyard, where eight rows of interplanted Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne are hand harvested and the breakdown is measured in picking buckets.
These eight rows are all that remain of the original Viognier vines planted in 2001. Just over half the vines needed to be removed in 2017 so the spaces between the remaining vines were planted with Marsanne and Roussanne. Uvaggio! The label artwork is a stylised print of the vines planted. Design kudos to @unitdesignnz.
2020 was the first harvest of these young vines, harvested during lockdown by Lorraine and Warren’s family bubble. They’re quite proud to finally have this wine in the bottle.
