A blend of Italian varieties Sangiovese and Montepulciano, rounded out with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, all grown on the Landing Estate vineyards in the Bay of Island in the excellent 2019 season. Deepest ruby red, with vibrant aromas of red cherry, blackcurrant, damson, allspice and floral top notes of violet and musk rose.
Juicy and opulent on the palate, with more plum, cranberry and bramble flavours, with a spicy seasoning of toasty, vanilla oak. Medium acidity and lithe tannins are well balanced, the whole is a smooth, velvetty wine with plenty of drink-now appeal. Towards the finish, the Cab Franc shows itself with a little forest-floor, leather, and savoury undertones of olive and liquorice. 92pts
