From Ohiti Valley, Hawke’s Bay comes this reserve wine with a few years under its belt, and 2016 a cracking year for Chardonnays. It’s a very pale straw colour in the glass, with a hint of struck-match reductivity on the nose, but balanced with apricot, ciabatta and nutmeg. Medium-light bodied, with a sweet-fruited palate of mandarin, white peach and pear. A light oak influence shows in a toasty, almond-meal flavour and adds some depth. Balanced and agile, dancing over the palate and ending with a sweet and vanilla finish. 89pts.
