From the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago comes this gorgeous Pinot Noir – aged for 5 years and ready for drinking now. A lighter colour in the glass than some Central Pinots – a bright ruby, just showing some brick-red at the edges. A wonderfully complex nose – aromatic with raspberry, lavender, red cherry, lilac and savoury notes of forest floor – mushroom, dried leaves and damp earth.
Sings with a bright, linear acidity – tannins are low, supple and integrated here. Medium bodied and vivacious on the palate with intense flavours of cassis, damson coulis, pomegranate, olive, and a lovely lingering spice. A silken texture and restrained oak influence; then layers of old leather, wet slate and tobacco leaf lead you to a harmonious finish. Such a complete glassful, you’ll be itching for another – a wine with real personality. 94pts.
