Excellent news this week that Flexi-Hex packaging will now be available in New Zealand. Akitu, will be the first wine producer in New Zealand to launch the sustainable packaging via Atelier Nash.
The ingenious Flexi-Hex packaging will be used to fulfil direct to consumer online wine sales, completely removing plastic from their packaging. It’s an innovative design made from paper that is 100% plastic-free, recyclable, biodegradable, home compostable and can protect wine bottles dropped from 4m.
Flexi-Hex was invented by British twins Sam and Will Boex and is exclusively imported and distributed in New Zealand by Atelier Nash.
The move to the new packaging was a no-brainer for the Central Otago producer who employs sustainable practices in their operation. Akitu is a two-time Sustainability Trophy winner at the IWC in London.
“I first experienced the Flexi-Hex packaging at our UK distributor, Mentzendorff & Co’s annual portfolio tasting in London. Not only did it deliver on all aspects of sustainability it was the coolest thing to pick up and look at,” says Andrew Donaldson.
“Packaging and branding values have become inextricably linked and have always been part of our innovation and attempt to distinguish ourselves. This adds to our customers’ experience of receiving the wine and is just one step towards not hurting the planet more. It’s perfect.” adds Donaldson.
Akitu online sales of 1, 2 or 3 bottles will be shipped in Flexi Hex Capsules and Pinch Top Boxes. Flexi-Hex and Atelier Nash are set to release 6 and 12 pack solutions in 2021.
“Akitu is the perfect producer to collaborate with and launch Flexi-Hex in New Zealand,” says Flexi-Hex distributor David Nash, Atelier Nash. “As well as making bloody good wine, Andrew and the team are on a journey of investing in and acknowledging their impact on the environment.”
