A barrel-fermented Chardonnay from the excellent 2019 vintage in Hawke’s Bay – won a Gold medal at the NZIWS this year.
A nose of lemon peel, peach, roast almond and just a touch of flinty reductivity. Medium-weighted palate with a lovely balance and subtlety rather than brashness. Nectarine, melon, apple strudel and burnt butter at the back. There’s also a touch of tarragon herbal and a grapefruit-pith drying element. Nice structure and complexity – supported with good oak and a linear acidity that propels the wine to a long satisfying finish. 92pts
