From a single vineyard in Dillons Point in Marlborough where the rows are planted north-east to south-west at a 43 degree angle rather than the typical north to south. The producer reckons “This leads to slightly greener characters in grapes on the south facing side and more tropical characters in grapes on the north facing side.” A delicately pale steel green colour in the glass. The power-packed nose has a complexity and directness to it. Passionfruit, whitecurrant and gooseberry are classic aromas, but jalapeño, nettle and kiwifruit are perhaps more unusual. The palate is just as bright, with a salty acidity doing the steering, and an intense ‘green’ vibe, with herbs, capsicum and lime zest along for the ride. In a good place now, but drink up – not one for the cellar. 92pts
