Alpha Domus The Navigator 2009

From two sites in the Bridge Pa Triangle sub-region of Hawke’s Bay, using a blend of 31% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc and 16% Malbec. Screwcap closure. A shiny, glossy medium ruby colour in the glass. Wow! Love the nose on this which is complex and perfumed with aromas of cassis and black fruit along with a hint of cedar. In the mouth you are treated to silky tannins and fruit that is matured but still has some primary fruit sweetness and a plush, round generosity.  As you would expect the oak (12 months 30% new) and the fruit have completely and harmoniously integrated. Flavours of cassis, blackberry crumble along with a side of boysenberry coulis. This is a beautiful wine at its zenith and is even more impressive given the price point on release. While at peak now I expect this to hold at this level for a number of years and pleased to have more bottles in the cellar.  94pts
