Churton ‘Best End’ Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Churton ‘Best End’ Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Sourced from a small 1.26-hectare block of Bordeaux clone grapes from the organic and biodynamic Churton estate in the Waihopai Valley. Hand-picked, then slow natural fermentation in oak puncheons, before ageing on lees for 11 months without filtration or fining.

A pale, steely lemon yellow colour in the glass. Brightly aromatic, with lemon zest, white peach, gooseberry, apple and fresh fennel bulb notes on the nose. A touch of white spring florals as a flourish. Dry and fine-boned, the structure of tart acidity and a creamy texture filling out the palate whilst keeping intensity and drive. The M word comes to mind – minerality, with a sense of crushed stone and terracotta. Not losing the fruit, the structure keeping it tight and energetic, it flows to to a long, mouth-watering finish. 92pts
