Pegasus Bay Riesling 2025

Pegasus Bay Riesling 2025

One of a few expressions of the varietal from the North Canterbury pioneers. A pale gold colour in the glass, with a voluminous bouquet that floods the senses with notes of green apple, lime, yuzu, cucumber, nougat, lemon, honey and jasmine. A touch of carbon dioxide remains as a spritz on the tongue (in the German fashion) – adding energy and zip to the palate. A fine balance between tangy acidity and plushness from the fruit ripeness. Sitting at a level of mid-20s for residual sugar, it does seem more generous, with an unctuous richness and slightly waxy texture adding up to a wine that has depth, spine and brightness in equal parts. There’s usually a mineral edge to the wines from this producer, and the back of the palate shows that here, with a chalkiness and bite to the finish. A wine that has historically aged very well too – see this review of the 2011 – https://winefolio.co.nz/?p=3505. 94pts
