Made from Primitivo grapes grown down in the heat of the ‘heel’ of southern Italy – a boisterous 15% alcohol. A deep burgundy purple colour, with ripe and plush fruit on the nose. Blackberry, damson, redcurrant and cherry with toasted spices, liquorice, black pepper and plum pudding. Softly textured and glossy into the palate, with a hit of alcohol heat and a swell of supple tannins. A couple of savoury notes of terracotta and tapenade flit across the palate but this is all about plump fruit, and is a definitive expression of the style. 92pts
