Escarpment ‘Blanc’ Pinot Blanc 2025

Escarpment ‘Blanc’ Pinot Blanc 2025

A wine from the Escarpment Home Block vineyard on the Martinborough Terrace – a wine that Larry McKenna used to make along the lines of the Weißburgunder dry whites from the Kaiserstuhl district in Germany. Good to see that the producer persists with this excellent but hard-to-find varietal.

A dry, aromatic white, with a bountiful perfume of peach, quince, pear, melon and citrus, with almond, chamomile and lemon blossom notes. Crisp, with acidity to spare, and a touch of textural spice from old oak – the palate is dry and rounded. A touch of savoury – that herbal quality shows again with nettle, fennel, dried apple slices, and crushed shell. A hint of old world – Burgundy as well as Germany – in the style and finesse. A lovely length to the finish too. 93pts
