A “Pét-Nat”(short for Pétillant Naturel) sparkling wine, made with a single fermentation and bottled before that primary ferment has finished. Hand-picked Muscat and Chardonnay (50% of each) was sourced from a 30 year old single vineyard in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough. An effervescent fizz starts off firmly, but dies down quite quickly. Aromas of peach, lemon, guava and melon, with a breadcrumb note and a little chalky minerality on the nose. Bursting with prickly acidity, the fruit sits up and has vibrant energy, without too much depth or complexity. A phenolic grip is there, adding texture and roundness to the clean, zippy palate. The finish is short and zesty, but mouth-watering. 88pts
