In 2023 the Champion Pinot Noir of the New Zealand International Wine Show was the 2020 ‘Reserve’ bottling of this wine from Martinborough. A dark but bright ruby colour in the glass. A little smoky earthy note starts off, but give a swirl and the ripe fruit flavours come bustling out. The list of cherry, bramble, boysenberry, black pepper, hay and cloves shows how complex and inviting the aroma is. Smooth, silky and succulent in the palate, with a bold energy and muscle. Dry, fine tannins add spine, and just enough oak brings a touch of depth, and dark to the brightness. 93pts
