A wine from Bannockburn in Central Otago. A translucent, bright pale gold in the glass. The brightness shows in the bouquet too – a vivid blend of orange blossom, jasmine, peach, apple, ginger, pear and lemon peel. Dry to taste, but with plenty of fruit ripeness and a touch of tannin adding phenolic grip. One of the most mineral-laden palates I can recall, with crushed shell and a really characterful tang adding interest. A touch of butterscotch peeps up in mid-palate, with baking spices and ginger biscuit too. The fruit is plush but strays towards bland – that perk of phenolic, quartziness really makes the wine. 91pts
