An unusual varietal to be found growing in New Zealand – this one comes from the top terrace of the Askerne vineyard in Hawke’s Bay. A pale, translucent ruby colour in the glass. The perfume is quite exotic – think Pinot Noir, with more plum, bramble and spice. Also a touch of green with nettle, tomato leaf and crushed herbs. Light and juicy in the palate, with very fine tannin and tart acidity. Cherry cola, cranberry and raspberry flavours shine plush and mouth-watering through to a drier, crisp finish. 90pts
