A Central Otago Riesling named as a tribute to the gold miners who worked the quartz reefs and were nicknamed ‘reefers’. A pale lemon-green colour in the glass. Varietal scents of crisp apple, ginger, lychee, mandarin, honeydew melon and jasmine. On the cusp of dry to off-dry on the palate, where the ripe fruit meets a sliver of residual sugar and brisk acidity, creating great tension and energy. A stony minerality flows around the edges, and a pithy prickle pricks the tongue. Towards the finish there’s also a cosset of creamy texture that gives balance and smooths out the persistent finale. 90pts
