Emile Boeckel Bacchus 2021

Emile Boeckel Bacchus 2021

A white wine from Alsace in France – the grape variety is Bacchus – it is also known as Sylvaner. Domaine Boeckel are organic producers and this bottling has zero sulphites added. A bright, bold golden colour in the glass, with flashes of lime green at the edges. Quite oxidative on the nose, with a blend of fruits – apricot, grapefruit, lemon and kumquat, and savoury – soy, bay leaf and green olive – notes. Bracing acidity drives the palate, with a crushed-shell minerality and a touch more green herbals too. Tannin plays  part, with phenolic drag across the back of the palate, and into a dry, lingering finish. Characterful, and will find favour in the ‘natural wine’ world, but I wouldn’t reach for another glass. 87pts
